Rehabilitation Services
Rehabilitation Services provides services to clients and their families from time of injury to community reintegration and beyond. The Rehabilitation Program consists
of six key service areas:

  • Service Coordination provides overall coordination for the rehabilitation
process, from injury to community reintegration and beyond. Professional
staff work with clients to ensure adequate services and supports are in
place to enable the individual to live in the community with independence
    and dignity.

  • Rehabilitation Counselling utilizes client centered counselling to assist clients
in coping with the overall impact of the disability including physical and psychosocial issues. Counselling focuses on health care, active living, physical fitness, rebuilding identity and positive self-esteem through life transitions.

  • Peer Support links people who have a new spinal cord injury with trained volunteers who have lived with a spinal cord injury for some time. Ideally,
this connection is made in the hospital after diagnosis, so help and information are available immediately. The relationships forged at this early stage often
continue for many months or years after. Peer Support can be activated at
any time in the rehabilitation process.

  • Information Services provides comprehensive and relevant information about spinal cord injury and disabilities for clients, families, staff, volunteers, health care professionals, employers, community agencies and government

  • Community Advocacy provides assistance to individual and communities to reduce barriers for people with mobility impairments.
